Synecdoche, New York (Charlie Kaufman, 2008, 123’)

For his new piece, theatre director, Caden (Philip Seymour Hoffman), builds a life-size replica of New York in an abandoned building. As the years go by, fact and fiction intermingle with each other more and more. The sets in the piece are scenes from real life and vice versa, characters become lovers, friends or neighbours. Synecdoche marks the directorial debut of screenwriter Charlie Kaufman, known as author of the metascripts for films like Adaptation, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Being John Malkovich.

This summer, in collaboration with Culture Platform Zebra Cinema, Z33 will organise three free open-air films on the Begijnhof site. You can come and enjoy three evenings with a drink and film in a summery setting. The bar is open from 9.30 p.m., the film begins when it is dark outdoors, around 9.30 to 10 p.m.
