Architecture Workroom Brussels - Unie Modell

A Fleming wants to live as close to the countryside as possible. Yet, the more he takes up residence in the countryside, the more countryside disappears. In addition, the ecological footprint and societal cost of this increasingly sprawled urbanisation is very high indeed. If we want to salvage and invigorate what remains of our countryside, we must alter the manner in which we wish to build houses in the future. Devising and building these new ‘residential landscapes’ is a crucial challenge for Flanders.
Architecture Workroom Brussels has developed, a.o. with ‘The Ambition of the Territory’ an alternative framework for the future of the Flemish residential landscape. A platform to delineate innovative answers and new visions via design and in collaboration with diverse experts, social actors and designers.
The installation Unie Modell displays the spatial reality between and surrounding the city centres of Hasselt and Genk. It is a composition and drawing platform to share new insights and to project new visions and models. The work is a call as well as an invitation for designers and the actors involved to get started on the future of the Limburg’s residential landscape.
