This project shows the renovation of an old village pub at the foot of the Koppenberg to a living space. Only the outer walls were preserved. Inside the house, a house was built, as a sort of meccano system. The result is an interior to the maximum, with detailing and construction method tailored to the homebuilder – the residents did indeed work in their new home themselves as much as possible. During winter, the residents live smaller with wide views, during summer the house is opened up by opening the sliding glass doors. The design is strongly rooted in the building and living itself and it evolves equally. This creates scope for improvisation and chance, very much liked by the architects.
During the opening of Atelier à Habiter, the residents built a model of their own house and visitors could get into dialogue with them about their building and living experiences. And about the role of the architect and builder in this process.
