Wim Catrysse

Simple actions performed by actors in areas they have constructed themselves serve as the starting point for the video works of Wim Catrysse. The compelling position of the camera disrupts the spectator's perception so that he becomes aware of his own physicality. Feelings of discomfort and disorientation are also enhanced by the careful integration of the work into the space. In Absent minded the centrifugal force plays a central role. This operates on the instructions of the walk-on actors while they themselves appear to remain out of range. Although it is a disruption it actually adds force to Catrysse's hard video films.
