Ernesto Neto

Visual artist Ernesto Neto had his first exhibition in Brazil in 1988. Since 1995 he has also had numerous solo exhibitions abroad. Neto’s installations are often made of enormous biomorphic sculptures. Exhibition-goers can often touch them and even walk through them. For famous places such as the ‘Pantheon’ in Paris, the Park Avenue Armory in New York City or the Turbine Hall of the Tate Modern in London he has made gigantic in situ installations. In spite of his abstract imagery the interaction with the visitor creates new meanings. Neto has received numerous decorations such as recently the French ‘chevalier de L’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres’. Neto lives and works in Rio de Janeiro.
