Anna Oppermann
Visual artist Anna Oppermann studied graphic design and painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Hamburg and philosophy at the University of Hamburg (1962-1968). From 1972 onwards she had many solo exhibitions in Germany, but she also partook in many group exhibitions abroad, such as the Venice Biennale in 1980 and Documenta 8 in 1987. Her works mainly consist of large ‘ensembles’ of drawings, collages and photos. Oppermann saw these works as a proposal for interaction with the viewer. She denied the subjectivist character of her works and considered herself as a mediator between different disciplines, between reason and sensory perception, between art and science, between the normal citizen and the outsider.
